Gotabhaya Rajapakse, the Sri Lankan defense secretary and the brother of President Mahinda Rajapakse, escaped unharmed Dec. 1 after a suicide bomber rammed the secretary's convoy with an auto-rickshaw and detonated a large claymore mine. The attack, likely perpetrated by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, indicates that the Tigers not only have resumed guerrilla-style attacks after a several-month lull, but that they are now striking at high-value targets.
